Pope Francis has given up his summer apartment, making it accessible to tourists

The papal apartment will be open to tourists from October 21. The grand opening of the palace rooms will be opened by a Chinese choir. Those interested will see a private bedroom, chapel, library and study. Since last year, people have been able to see a part of the palace that the pope did not use.
The property has belonged to the heads of the Catholic Church since the 17th century. It became a summer residence under Pope Urban VIII, and since the signing of the Lateran Treaties in 1929, Castel Gandolfo has been part of the Vatican. During World War II, Jews hid there. Popes Pius XII and Paul VI. they died there. Jan XXIII preferred to spend his free time in the palace. and Benedict XVI, who lived in Castel Gandolfo for a short time after his resignation.
Unlike his predecessor, Pope Francis never spent his summer vacation in the palace overlooking Lake Albania.
