Later, it was seized and sold by various monarchs, until it ended up after Bílá hora in the hands of Albrecht of Valdštejn, who built an economic empire in northern and eastern Bohemia within a few years, but had the castle rebuilt into a monastery.

In the end, Bezděz was acquired by the Club of Czechoslovak Tourists and after that by the socialist state, from whose care the castle is still recovering.

We can see Prague and the mountains

The view from the tower is worth seeing, from where you can observe the former Soviet military area of Ralsko, but also the České středohoří, Český ráj, the Lusatian Mountains and Polabí. In good autumn visibility, it is also possible to see the apartment blocks of the Prague housing estates.

The most valuable part of the castle is the charming Gothic chapel of the Archangel Michael.

On foot or by bike

The village of Bezděz pod hrad can be reached by car or bus, but a walking or cycling tour is much more interesting. The castle looms like a double-peaked solitaire in the distance and gradually approaches.

ACCOMMODATION: Cottages, cottages, log cabins, apartments and boarding houses in Bohemian Paradise

The classic forty-kilometer route follows the red tourist sign from Mělník. It is possible to ride on a trekking bike, but a mountain bike is more suitable. Although most of the journey is on roads, the rest is on sandy roads.

The second branch of the red sign leads eight kilometers from Doks. The mountain bike also allows you to come through the forest and on dirt roads from Mimon, Kuřívod and Mnichova Hradiště.
