EarthCheck has recognized initiatives in the field of environmental protection.

Sustainable use of electricity - electricity consumption per guest per night at Zuri Zanzibar is 52% lower than comparable projects. This is the result of the introduction of self-sufficient resources and the implementation of less energy-intensive technologies, such as automatic lighting and the Evening Breeze system, which creates a microclimate around the bed and contributes to healthy sleep, while consuming seventy-five percent less electricity than usual with standard air conditioning.

Self-sufficient water sources - Zuri Zanzibar is completely self-sufficient in water consumption and is not connected to the island's water infrastructure in any way. Water is produced by desalination from seawater and stored directly on site using wells. This ensures drinking water and water for irrigation for the entire resort.

Sustainable materials and careful handling of resources - the project used mainly local materials from a radius of 500 km from the site, e.g. sand, cement, steel, bricks, wood.

Social, Cultural and Economic Wellbeing - Zuri Zanzibar focuses on community initiatives that improve living conditions in Kendwa village through education, training and development. Community programs include the Pack to Give initiative, which allows guests to bring items such as books, glasses and towels to donate directly to the local community. Zuri Zanzibar has also launched the Keep Kendwa Clean initiative in collaboration with Zanrec, a waste management company. Other projects include the provision of wells in the Kendwa community area, the construction of local schools and the conduct of tourism training to offer local people the opportunity to acquire new skills and find work.
