The establishment of a garden on clay can not do without piles of sand and substrate

Before any garden work can even begin, the land needs to be reclaimed. “If you look at the terrain, it's all clay, which isn't very good for a garden. That's why the soil needs to be prepared by adding sand and mixing it with the substrate," points out Tomáš Barták, an expert in the implementation of gardens.

The land is never in a very attractive condition after construction, but the expert assures that no one should be discouraged. It's like that practically every time.

Procedure in a nutshell: you have to start with the preparation of the terrain. A soil tiller is used to fluff up the soil. Then comes the planting plan, so the places where what needs to be planted are determined, and details such as the transition between lawns and flower beds begin to be worked out.

Metal or plastic curbs are usually used for these cases. These are to prevent the grass from starting to grow into the beds, and they also make the maintenance of the garden much easier when mowing the grass.

If the lawn is to be irrigated in the garden, it is necessary to lay the entire irrigation system and connect it to the water source before laying the grass strips. In the case of this reconstruction, it will be in a buried storage tank, into which rainwater is drained.

You can use classic sprinklers that come out of the lawn at the given hour and sprinkle the vegetation, but it is also possible to use a drip system. In that case, drip hoses are buried in the ground, which gently drop water directly to the grass roots.

When a carpeted lawn is laid, it must be taken into account that it is immediately walkable, but with a higher load you have to wait for the root system to take hold. This generally takes at least a month for a classic sown lawn before you can use the mower for the first time, a little less for a sown lawn.

It can take about a year for the plants to adapt to the new location and create a nice effect. You will see the biggest ones in perennials. They start to form a nice colorful mass in the garden and are effective.

In general, it is ideal to undertake similar garden modifications in spring or autumn, when the plants are best acclimatised. "Of course, gardens are taken care of throughout the season, but the owner needs to accept that he will have to pay more attention to regular watering during the season," points out Tomáš Barták.
