The fairy-tale cottage without electricity and running water, where the people of Prague, played by Zdenek Svěrák (85) and Daniela Kolářová (75), went with their children for the weekend, has long since taken it as their own. Josef Kemr would definitely not recognize the film location.

Big change

In its place, a modern building stands under the forest in the Příbram region. Even the biggest fan of film family silverware would not recognize that it was here that the Lavičeks slept until lunch and the locals could not understand it. The field that Komárek promised he would not sow in the spring is also missing. And Jitka the cow should have nowhere to graze. The cottage is a modern object that offers the owner a high level of comfort.

Prayed mill

The mill near Rabyně, which was run by Ladislav Smoljak (†78) as engineer Radim Zvon, also known as »Mr. Father«, with his wife Naďa Urbanková (81) also underwent a huge transformation. He was rescued from the wreckage by businessman Ladislav Šedivý (63).

He enthusiastically bought the property from the original owners in a very dilapidated condition, and reality caught up with him right away. "There were problems with processing permits, everything was incredibly long," he confided to the Blesk newspaper five years ago. Then the flood hit and we had to wait again...

To the third one

It took a total of seven years before the energetic man who deals with computers could in his mill for the first time sleep over "It's difficult with old buildings. You will suddenly come to the fact that it cannot be done as you would like," explains Mr. Šedivý.

“I had to change two architects, only the third was a hit. Czech František from Austria did it. He deals with old houses and hotels there, he knew how to do it," he says with satisfaction.

I brought life back here

“I wanted the mill to resemble a movie as much as possible, and I wanted to be able to live in it. I am here regularly once a week. And I wished the object lived. Christmas parties were held here, friends, daughter and people who fell in love here stay here," adds the owner. From the pond, where, according to Smoljak, the frogs croaked so strangely, there is a place for swimming. One can find comfort and peace here. Exactly what the 1976 film exudes.

Even the cottage is like a box

Grandfather Komárk's cottage, where the popular comedy was filmed, was bought by a private owner and nothing prevented the reconstruction. Fleas disappeared, chickens disappeared, even the persistent goat went to eternal hunting grounds. Here, nothing resembles the filming of the famous comedy, which has seen countless reruns.

The actor was a neighbor of Hrušínský

Josef Kemr had his real cottage converted from an apiary in Planá nad Lužnicí. In choosing the location, he agreed with his colleague from the National Theater Rudolf Hrušínský (†73). They often sat together by the water. In addition, Kemr drove around the area, whitewashed the chapels with lime and cut the grass around them.

It was supposed to be filmed at Svěrák

Originally, screenwriter Zdeněk Svěrák thought that it could be filmed at the cottage where he went with his wife and two children. "But when the cameraman saw it there, it bothered him that there was only a short sun," revealed Svěrák.

The new owner was also in the film

Ladislav Šedivý is associated with the film Alone in the Forest thanks to the scene where the Škoda truck with Abrhám, Kolářová and the children leaves Klimentská Street for Revoluční. "I lived in the house in the shot for thirty years. On the first floor," explained the businessman. Škoda 100 belonged to Zdenek Svěrák.
