The hidden pearl of Vinohrady opens its doors. Forbes history was made in Laichter's home

Today, in the spacious writing room with a richly decorated staircase hall, there are still several period tables in the place where the publishing house itself was once located. The room is now used by a company that develops artificial intelligence, with which Jan Laichter's great-grandson Štěpán collaborates.

Spend the night in a villa that contains all the drama of the 20th century

On the first floor was the apartment of the publisher's family. Although his descendants live in the house, the apartment behind the brick bay window, which is entered through a hall uniquely decorated with paintings by František Kysela and a chandelier by František Anýž, is occupied by tenants.

“They have a guaranteed lease for a few more years and this is a family that has lived here for a really long time. It also helps to know that they have a great relationship with the art and legacy of Kotěra," adds Laichter junior.

If you get to this exceptional house, pay attention to the carvings of owls in the hall, which are supposed to symbolize wisdom.

The era of socialism was relatively gentle on Laichter's house, the house housed a warehouse of books, so it did not damage the valuable building except for minor modifications. Even the book lift is still functional.

Many have the house still connected with the Paseka publishing house, which was located here from 2000 until this year. Now the Laichter House is entirely in the hands of the family's successors. "We will gradually renovate it, but we are still at the beginning of our journey. It is necessary to have not only means, but above all patience," concludes the youngest of the Laichter family.
