In his Christmas message, Zeman ranked her among the three dangers that made this year not a good year. According to him, the agreement is the result of ecology becoming a religion. He considers it to be the main cause of rising energy prices in the Czech Republic. We know ads are annoying. Zeman said that the sharp rise in electricity and natural gas prices will continue. "If we are to at least mitigate this increase, we must break with the so-called Green Deal for Europe, which I believe is the main cause of the increase in energy prices," he said. According to him, the decommissioning of functional power plants reduces the supply of energy. "And with constant or even growing demand, the natural consequence is a rise in its price," he added.

Fortunately, however, energy policy is the responsibility of national governments and parliaments, he says. "And, fortunately, it is not dictated to us by Brussels, which also applies to nuclear energy, which I warmly support. And I consider it a mistake to talk about nuclear support, but we have done almost nothing in recent years to start building new nuclear resources," he said. . According to him, this applies to all past governments.

Česko by se mělo vyvázat z evropské Zelené dohody, řekl Zeman

According to Zeman, the Green Agreement is the result of ecology becoming a religion. "And like any religion, this one has its prophets," he said, referring to Swedish activist Greta Thunberg. According to him, the agreement orders to stop heating with natural gas in 2030 and not to drive cars with internal combustion engines in 2035. "All of this would undermine our energy by leading to energy poverty," he said. According to him, there would be a risk of a decline in living standards and economic performance.

As part of the Green Agreement for Europe strategy, the EU executive is trying to direct EU member states to meet the climate goals that the leaders of the states, including the Czech prime minister, agreed on last year. According to them, the union would like to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by at least 55 percent compared to 1990 levels by the end of the decade, to produce no emissions by the middle of the century or to balance them with technological measures, for example.

The measures mentioned by Zeman are mostly in the design phase of the EU executive. In the case of natural gas, the proposal envisages a ten-year deadline; in the case of vehicles, 2035 is a possible end to the sale of new cars with internal combustion engines. Government politicians mention in this context that Zeman has committed inaccuracies, the spread of rumors or misinformation. "Some rumors about the Green Deal, such as the ban on gas heating, must be brought to light. Nothing like this applies," said Marek Výborný, the head of KDU-ČSL deputies.

In July, the European Commission (EC) proposed that the sale of new petrol or diesel cars be virtually ruled out by 2035. The Commission estimates that the car will have an average life of 15 years, so in 2050 it saw virtually no cars with conventional combustion engines in Europe.

In practice, this means that new cars registered since 2035 should have zero emissions, according to the EC. At the same time, the proposal envisages expanding the capacity to power these cars on the main roads: every 60 kilometers in the case of electric charging and every 150 kilometers in the case of hydrogen fuels.

In December, the EC presented a set of other proposals, for example, it wants to phase out the heating of buildings with gas and other fossil fuels by 2040. Stricter environmental rules are also to apply to the construction of new buildings, which, moreover, will not be able to produce any emissions from 2030. From 2027, people will lose the right to support heating with gas boilers.

The European Commission states that its December proposal aims to facilitate the renovation of residential buildings, schools, hospital offices and other buildings in the EU in order to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and energy bills. Frans Timmermans, executive vice president for the Green Agreement for Europe, said that supporting the renovation of residential and other buildings would help the economy and create new jobs. He also noted that investing in energy renovation will pay off as it will reduce costs.

One week ago, Petr Fiala (ODS) described the European Commission's proposal to ban the production and sale of cars with internal combustion engines after 2035 as unacceptable. "This would endanger the livelihood of many people who do not use a car in our country as a luxury or for fun," said Fiala.
