Steam is dominated by unlikely hits: alchemist simulator and gas station attendant
September 29, 2021 The main season of the gaming year is slowly starting, but it doesn't seem like it at the most popular digital game store. Instead of the expected hits, they are ruling the popularity charts for a game we hadn't heard anything about until a few weeks ago. In addition to the construction strategy with beavers or the alchemical linking of ingredients, the gas station operator simulator is no longer surprising.

Due to the many, many delays caused by the coronavirus, it will not be as busy as we hoped at the beginning of the year, but we still have a lot to look forward to.
The PC scene has its own specifics compared to consoles, when an independent hit with significantly lower production costs can unexpectedly wipe out the eyes of established brands. In February, the Viking survival game Valheim succeeded (see our article), and there is not a single reason why others could not succeed.
Since million-dollar hits such as Call of Duty: Vanguard, Far Cry 6, Diablo 2: Resurrected are not available on Steam, others are given space in this still most popular digital game store, and so it happened that the popularity charts are currently dominated by titles, to which we would never tell. What's more, we haven't even heard of them until recently. Let's look at the three most interesting:
Timberborn
Basically a classic Settlers-style building strategy, only instead of people, you care about civilization beavers. It has certain specifics, such as the fact that all the buildings are made of wood, but otherwise the game impresses rather than with some innovative mechanics because you can relax in it while looking at the cute furry ones. While Timberborn is still in early access and many have criticized it for its lack of content, it currently has a 95% rating on Steam from over 2,000 players. And that's enough to say.
Potion Craft: Alchemist Simulator
This original and stylish looking game in which you brew various potions resembles a minigame from the Czech Kingdom Come: Deliverance, just perfected. And in addition, in excellent graphics reminiscent of historical scrolls. You have full control over the entire alchemy workshop, inventing new recipes, trying to attract customers and experimenting with new chemical elements. The game was one of the best-selling games ever on Steam for a while, at the time of writing it was pushed to fourth place by the eagerly awaited MMORPG New World from the financial giant Amazon, the last part of the Need for Speed series discounted by 90 percent and…
Gas Station Simulator
That obscure simulators of work activities that in the real world people get paid to Steam is doing well, we're kind of used to it. In addition to the million-selling series Farming Simulator or Car Mechanic Simulator, such oddities as the garden tractor driver simulator (see our article) have also managed to establish themselves. But even in this light, the gas station operator game still looks like an incomprehensible flight. And yet, more than ten days after its release, Gas Station Simulator remains among the biggest hits ever on Steam.
Its content is surprisingly rich. In addition to helping customers, you also have to renovate and expand your station, and we can even find some hints of the story here. Gas Station Simulator undoubtedly owes its success to many YouTubers who, for some reason, find streaming it to be a lot of fun. In any case, the authors will be able to use their success, so they have already announced a roadside service station simulator for next year.
