The Keepcup mug was created with the clear goal of reducing the use of paper and plastic disposable cups.

I have tried a number of ecological mugs and cups in my life, so I was curious what will surprise me today, the tested KeepCup.

And in the end it was not enough.

Read my experience with this ecological coffee and tea mug.

What to think about before buying

In the past, I thought about how much I bought and then threw away paper or plastic coffee cups.

I came to the number about 240 a year, which is really a force.

At the same time, it is completely unnecessary to waste this when there are much greener alternatives.

That's why I've been using mugs for the last few years, which I don't have to throw away after drinking coffee.

One of the ecological alternatives is the KeepCup reviewed today,

This mug is made of recyclable and non-toxic BPA-free materials, so you don't have to worry about getting poisoned while drinking.

Dishwasher safe.

You can also heat the drink in the microwave.

Just make sure you take off the lid and leave it out.

Its size is cute, so it fits easily in coffee machines.

In my case, mainly at gas stations on my travels.

First impression of the product

KeepCup cup, I ordered coffee at the Gourmet e-shop.

It arrived nicely wrapped.

It is quite light and looks nice.

Its main idea is to reduce the amount of waste in the form of disposable cups.

Its service life is several years and can be divided into four parts.

In this video you can see how to disassemble the mug.

The mug is made so that it serves well for storing ice and boiling drinks.

The BPA-free silicone cap has a protrusion for easy removal and a closable drinking hole.

The drinking hole is in the shape of a triangle, which makes drinking more comfortable.

Coffee or tea in this organic mug stays up to 30 minutes longer hot than in a normal mug.

Why say goodbye to disposable cups?

  1. When I calculated how many cups I would consume per year, I came up with 240 disposable cups per year. And when I imagined that other people are on it, the mountain of waste from the cups is unimaginable. I had to stop!
  2. One-pot lasts up to 20 years, which does not benefit nature at all.
  3. Paper cups with an inner layer of polyethylene cannot be recycled in the Czech Republic.
  4. Although it is treated as "decomposable" or "recyclable", in most cases it ends up in the same way in mixed waste and thus in a landfill or incinerator.
  5. In a paper or plastic cup, your coffee or tea will cool down immediately, because they do not have anti-regulatory properties.
  6. Plastic often impairs the taste of the drink itself.
  7. In some cafes you will get a discount for your own cup and at the same time it is quite probable that in the foreseeable future you will pay extra for the one-off one.

Features and benefits of KeepCup

Let's take a closer look at the Keepcup mug itself,

This clear mug was made in Australia from light clear plastic.

I chose a smaller, 227ml large specimen.

Its lid, handle and swivel cap are black.

In terms of material, the mug is made of polypropylene without BPA, LDPE and TPU.

The lid and strap are made of silicone and the plastic body of the mug is made of tritane.

Coffee or tea in KeepCup stays approximately 30 minutes longer than in a regular mug.

Thanks to the silicone ring, the mug will not burn you.

The lid holds nicely and the cap can be snapped so that it does not interfere with your coffee.

It also seals very well, but be careful, it does not seal 100% percent.

You need to think about it so that you are not surprised :)

As I wrote above, the volume of the KeepCup mug is 227ml.

There are larger sizes, but I needed a mug that would fit in coffee machines.

If you wash it in the dishwasher, the mug will wear out faster.

So I'd rather wash it in my hand.

Other customers' experience with the KeepCup mug

"Nice to hold, it can hold a lot of coffee from a vending machine in our canteen, but it's still not high enough to fit in the vending machine."

"The mug is ideal for a small coffee or for children. The colors are actually nicer."

"Beautifully warm drink for a long time. Great to wash. Beautiful design."

"It's been a few mugs and this is the top of all. The coffee in it stays beautifully warm and I don't have to drink it as soon as possible."

What's with the mug?

With proper care, the cup will last for many years.

Nevertheless, one day we will have to say goodbye.

Then what to do with KeepCup?

You can easily throw the mug in a yellow plastic container.

If you are generally not sure what to throw away, you can check everything on the Where to page page.

All recycling facilities accept and process polypropylene, which is also why it is used in KeepCup.

Evaluation of the KeepCup mug

Pros

Cons

Buying a KeepCup mug was a good choice.

Finally, I have a small mug enough to fit into any coffee machine.

It is nicely light, made of polypropylene and does not contain BPA.

It drinks very well and is very practical.

I can recommend it with a clear conscience.

Where to buy Keepcup?

You can buy it in the Gourmet coffee e-shop, where you can choose not only this 227ml large mug, but also a number of other KeepCups of other sizes with colors.

Manufacturer KeepCup

The KeepCup brand was founded by the Forsyth siblings when they saw how much waste was produced in cafes. So they came to the market with reusable thermo mugs, which are also very successful in design.

The KeepCup thermo mug was created with a clear goal. Replace tons of disposable paper cups and contribute to a better environment.

It all started in 1998, when the Forsyth siblings opened a chain of BlueBag stores, selling fresh sandwiches, salads and coffee with them. However, they did not like the high consumption of materials and unnecessary pollution of the environment.

And so the idea was born to produce quality mugs in a pleasant design that could be used over and over again.
