The basis for the production of household soap is a soap mass, which you can find in creative needs or on the Internet. A kilo of mass is around 150 crowns. There are several options - transparent, semi-transparent, opaque, for allergy sufferers and plant-based. In addition, the soap mass can be enriched with shea butter or goat's milk, argan or hemp oil.

Choose the color of the material according to the purpose. If you want to make soaps mainly decorative, full of flowers and herbs that will smell beautiful, but will probably end up on the shelf in the bathroom, choose a transparent material. If you plan to make a functional soap that the recipient can wash with, choose an enriched variant of the soap that benefits the skin.

The soap is ready in a few minutes

Weigh the necessary amount of material, which you cut into smaller pieces for faster dissolution. Put it in a smaller pan and put it in a water bath, which will ensure that the mass does not get too hot and thus does not destroy. For example, if it started to boil, bubbles would form in it, which would remain in the soap, and the mass would become cloudy. Do the same as when heating the chocolate.

The soap mass can also be heated in a microwave oven. In this case, use a microwave-safe container and set the appliance to the lowest power. Instead, set a shorter time, which you can extend if necessary.

Once the mass is dissolved, you can color it, add aroma, herbs, spices, natural peels, dried flowers… In short, everything that makes the soap nicer.

Pour the mixture prepared in this way into molds. You will find original silicone soap molds on the market, but don't be afraid to experiment. You can pour the mass into a banana bread mold and cut the soap after hardening. You can use molds for pudding, ice, baking, but also ordinary cups, for example from yoghurts.

Handmade gifts that you can still make by Christmas

The setting time of the soap is very individual. It depends not only on the size of the mold, but also on the temperature and humidity that prevails in the room. Generally speaking, after about 30 minutes, you can remove the soap from the mold, if you need to speed up this time, place the molds on a cool floor in the hallway or bathroom. Do not cool the soap in the fridge, it will dew and then it will not look nice. Wrap the finished soap in waxed paper and let it rest for a few days.

You make the soap mass yourself

You can prepare the soap mass at home, the basis for work will be quality olive or Marseille soap. Grate such soap on a grater, put it in a saucepan and add 350 ml of distilled water to 150 grams of soap. Slowly heat the water on the hotplate until the soap dissolves and must not boil again. Follow the instructions above with the material prepared in this way. Classically, soap is made from sodium hydroxide (lye) and oils and fats, but this is no longer fun, because lye is corrosive. Therefore, do not do this with children.

What else can be added to the soap

- aroma - aromas are sold directly in soaps, but you can also use pleasant essential oils.

- soap paints - not necessary. But if you want soap that is nicely colored, choose colors designed for soaps, gels and waxes.

- herbs - our grandmothers already knew that there is great power in nature. However, you should rather choose herbs for soaps in organic quality, or grow them yourself in the garden. To sleep beautifully after the bath, you can add chamomile, lemon balm, valerian, hops, St. John's wort and lavender. On the contrary, mint, sage or licorice can kick the morning shower nicely and stimulate the body.

- dried flowers - not only do they look beautiful, but they also provide beneficial substances to the skin.

- caffeine - the caffeine contained in tea or coffee, for example, can stimulate the body, the rough structure of the soap will then also serve as a peeling.

- oatmeal and seeds - (poppy, chia, ground coconut) also serve as a peeling, in addition they release ingredients that keep the skin supple.

- oil - coconut, almond, hemp…
