Get to know the famous unknown German capitals Stuttgart and Frankfurt

Pre-Christmas purchases of almonds and raisins, flammable Tesla curtains, as well as quality leather shoes. For several generations of Czechs, all this was symbolized by East German Dresden. Regensburg, Nuremberg, Munich and Berlin later joined them. But now let's visit two other metropolises, more distant and little known - Stuttgart and Frankfurt am Main.

The first of these lost its historic center during the war and is characterized by an international airport and mirrored skyscrapers, where banking institutions from London are leaving the EU. Stuttgart keeps renovated original half-timbered houses and Baroque churches in its center, but it also bears a clear trace of car brands and is also one of the richest German cities thanks to them. Whether you go for a weekend or a shop, it's worth a look.

STUTTGART

The capital of Baden-Württemberg - Stuttgart is located in southwestern Germany on the river Neckar, which is a tributary of the Rhine. It has a population of 600,000, although the area has a population of about 5.5 million, making it the fourth most populous part of Germany. Stuttgart is known for its international character, 40% of the population are not Germans.

The town, sunk into the valley between the vineyards, is lined on the sides by residential areas with gardens. The center around the Old Town is pleasantly busy. People work on computers or rest in the green areas of numerous parks, sit by the fountains in sight of Baroque buildings and near Königstrasse leading to the Old Town.

The center of the Old Town is dominated by the "market square" Schillerplatz, filled from November to last place with wooden houses decorated in Christmas style. The local markets have a tradition of more than three centuries and are visited by three million visitors each year. He takes away not only memories, but also typical wooden toys, scented candles, figures from Bethlehem or candied fruit dipped in chocolate.
