The four-story house, whose interior impresses at first glance with its eclectic style of furnishings, was built in 1908. The actor couple bought it in 2013 and before they could start using it for living, they had to first thoroughly reconstruct and adjust. It served as a bed & breakfast.

The work lasted 14 months, and architect Jeffery Povero together with interior designer Trace Lehnhoff took control of the renovation.

The house has been preserved and carefully restored most of the original architectural elements, such as decorative stucco, various built-in parts, oak floors, a splendid staircase of oak and sycamore wood, &c.

At the same time, many modern improvements and period pieces have also been added. "We both wanted to respect the history of this space, the place, and yet at the same time we wanted it to feel contemporary, creative and accessible," Neil Patrick Harris is quoted by The New York Times website.

“We have some of our dearest and fondest memories associated with the house in Harlem. Our children spent most of their lives there. It's a legitimately special place for us," says the actor.

Five floors with garden and terraces

The interior of the house is divided into five floors, while its total usable area is 743 square meters.

The main entrance leads up the stairs to the second floor level. There is a music room here, but also a cloakroom, a laundry room and a bar with a gas fireplace at the back. There is also a so-called preparation kitchen.

The stairs lead down to the ground floor, which is at garden level and also has its own entrance to the office. In addition to it, there is also a home theater and storage spaces on the ground floor. On the second floor there is a living room with another fireplace, a formal dining room and a large kitchen complete with a pantry.

The next two floors are occupied by four bedrooms complete with the same number of bathrooms, and a library, which can of course be turned into a fifth room. The house also has two separate toilets, a laundry room, as well as a gym, a wine cellar and a games room.

The interior includes an additional 186 square meters of outdoor space, which includes not only the back garden, but also a second-floor terrace with a hot tub that complements the master bedroom.

The last part of the outdoor areas is a roof terrace with a bbq corner and a pergola with wisteria.

The secret is guarded by the magician's eye

In the very eclectically furnished interior, where both purely historical pieces of furniture and completely modern ones complement each other well, and the walls are decorated with a lot of mostly modern paintings, it is possible to discover a lot of decorations related to with wizardry being Neil's hobby. The entrance to his secret study on the top floor is therefore conveniently disguised.

In order to open the secret door, you need to press the eyeball of the magician on the ancient poster, the actor revealed in the past to the website Architectural Digest. However, he refused to reveal what exactly is hidden in the room, saying that it is a secret room after all.

As The New York Times website reminds, the actors and their family have not lived permanently in the house for some time, as they bought a residence in East Hampton four years ago. That's why they finally decided to sell their old home in Harlem. The price is set at 7.325 million dollars, i.e. 159.33 million crowns.
