Skating in nature

Natural ice, if it freezes, appears in the capital on the popular Botič stream. They mainly skate on the Hostivařský dam, Hamerský rybník and the retention reservoirs Chodovského potok, Košíkovského potok and Milíčovského potok, which are fed by Botič and its tributaries.

Hamrák has a special position. The ice is not optimal, it is often bumpy or rutted, but this disadvantage is balanced by the romantic atmosphere. Public lighting can reach here, which is why people skate here even at night. On one side of the pond, the Lechovicky wine cellar is in operation, and on the other side, the modern Hamr restaurant connected to the sports center operates.

Another system of ponds is on the Kunratické stream. They mainly skate on the Horní Kunratický pond. The large ice area on Džbán near Divoká Šárka is popular. Únětický rybník in Tiché údolí and Šeberák near Šeberov soon freeze.

At least one of the many ponds and artificial reservoirs in the southeast of Prague in the strip from Počernice, through Uhříněves, Průhonice to Jesenice tends to have good ice. Popular large ice areas are Počernický rybník, Kyjský rybník and Šeberák.

If really severe frosts hit Prague, skaters go to the rivers. Water areas in the ports of Podolí pod Vyšehrad, Smíchov and Libeň are popular. The confluence of the Berounka and the Vltava and the Radotín harbor will also freeze. Lovers of skating tourism get on the train and go to Karlštejn, from where they return to Prague via the frozen Berun. The advantage is that every few kilometers there is a village, pub and railway station on the shore. Thus, skating becomes an unforgettable social event.

MAP: Natural and artificial ice surfaces are marked with a snowflake icon. If you are only interested in skating, select the SKATING layer in the top left icon and skip the other tourist attractions.
