Singer Ewa Farna: Umami is what makes life more complex

Zpěvačka Ewa Farna: Umami je i to, co činí život komplexnější

You released a single body before the album emissions. His text deals with the amazing abilities of your body.Is it a song with a message?

For a long time I felt the need to communicate something in my pop songs. But the nut was to figure out how to do it with ease so that it did not sound moralization. At the same time, I did not want to do the so -called fun of the song.Specifically, I wrote my body in the context of motherhood, but people could understand them in other contexts. We also opened the door by appearing in the video with girls with various bodily restrictions, whether they were the reason for motherhood, operation or life alone.

In response, I got a lot of news from the Czech Republic and Poland, where the song was released. After a long time, it happens to me that people on the street sometimes come not only with my fingers crossed, but that the song addressed them. These specific praise are a huge satisfaction for me.

I feel that when the song has already touched someone, then considerably.I did not give my feedback demands, because I could then be disappointed. But the reactions are numerous and pleasant.

You released the new album Umami seven years after the previous act of the folder and you are coming with other music. How did it evolve?

I've been groping for a long time.In addition, I felt some pressure because it would be my first album, which I will produce and publish myself, and the longer the time it has passed since the last time, the more I was afraid that it would be high demands.

I tried to find out exactly what the adult Ewa is, what she will sing about, how he moves in the music.Maybe I set the pressure for the most part, but it led me that I gradually began to perceive that I had clearer themes of lyrics and views of music.

I also calmed down more and after the birth of my son Arthur also gained more balance. When I defined how I wanted to give my music to people, it was time to start working. In the meantime, I published new songs and I think my development is captured in them. However, those who will put together the last board the folder and the new skill will probably be quite surprised.

In the booklet of the album you write that you have heard what you should do since the people in the music industry in the last seven years. But one of the producers of the new album Jenda Vávra had no specific ideas and let you create and sing.Did it make it easier for you?

It was not very nice to listen to the frequent opinions of other people who knew clearly what I should do in the music.I wasn't at all sure where to go, and I was nervous when someone else has a clearer vision about me than I myself. It blocked me a bit, because among them were producers or musicians I appreciate.I realized that it was nice to hear sincere and well -thought advice, but I was still convinced that the final form must unconditionally match my vision.

Jenda Vávra behaved differently. He didn't put me anywhere, on the contrary, he just encouraged me, whether I was bolder in authenticity, no matter what style I do in what style I do or where he has a chance to sound. And whether I think about whether I enjoy it, captures and I don't skip any song.

We gathered regularly, playing musical ideas, and he mined my feelings. He also helped me contact other album producers because several of them participated.

Why did you decide to work with more producers?

Nowadays it is common and I think that even beneficial to me.It was quarantine, we worked online, everyone was active. For each song I was part of the creative team. Some were created on Songwriting camps, ie in cooperation with other authors.

We did not work on them but from scratch, which would not be very conceptual since I filmed an album.Jena and I had prepared and already thought out themes in the first phase.I knew what I wanted the song to be and how to be in the mood. There was something to build with other collaborators at the Songwriting camp.

David Stypka helped me a lot. When I was pregnant for the first time, I told him I wanted to release the album before giving birth.I asked him to help me.He came to my home for three days and we should have written some lyrics. But there was nothing at all, and I was quite unhappy.

But David reassured me and told me that we did the most important. And he was right. Thanks to the common long debates, after his departure, I knew who I wanted to tell new songs and how I wanted to do it.He told me to have the toughest process in this order.

There is also an author's footprint from Poland.Do you have your author's background in a country where you are very popular?

Producer Mikolai Trybulec with us a year and a half ago at the Czech Songwriting camp composed the song Lost in translation. It was released on the new album and in the meantime he became the second most listened to Spotify producer in Poland. It's very popular now.I would like to do with him in the future, because I like his work.

In Poland, however, I have no permanent author's team, but rather surrounded myself with individual people. For example, because of the lyrics, because the album Umami has its Polish equivalent. It will come out there in January.

In the song Reincarnation hosts Czech singer Sofian Medjedj. How did you join?

It's the oldest song on the album. For the first time, it was already on my performance in Prague's Karlín Forum for ten years on the scene, which was in 2016. But for the new album we remodeled it, we wanted it to be fresher. And we added a guest.

It seemed that we would record the song without the other look, which played an important role for the meaning of the song. But then I remembered Sofian.I knew him from Lukáš Chromek, my guitarist. He works with him as a producer. It was me who came to him and asked him to cooperate. The next day he shot in the Part Studio, which is on the album. We were all excited about him.He put exactly what I missed in the song.

Why is the whole album called Umami, but the song is called Umamy?

The album begins with an intra called Umami and ends with a song in which we wrote hard y at the end.We did it because a lot of people hear the name of the Czech turn at Mom.

Umami is the word of Japanese, means the fifth taste that highlights all others. It cannot be clearly described, but thanks to it the food tastes completely. And the art of my life is motherhood. When we first meet with the taste of umami, it is when drinking breast milk.

The word has a lot of meanings for me that connect each other. All the more so, when in general, it can be umami anything that makes one's life more complex and accentuates all its tastes.

Your husband Martin Chobot recently announced that he would leave your accompanying band. Will you replace it?

We will not.He was with me in the group for twelve years, some songs and sang with me, I would not want to replace him with anyone. With the rest of the band members, we agreed that we would not need two guitars when playing songs from the new album.

They are not inherently composed purely rock, we will approach them simultaneously.Likewise, we will transform the arrangements of older songs, look for a new sound. So it was more likely to go to the older repertoire again and otherwise, which actually may not be bad at all.
