ChrastilCharismatic, irresistible, witty, professional in every inch - this is how the dance master Josef Chrastil is called by graduates of his courses and acquaintances. Thousands of young and old people have taken his dance courses since the end of the Second World War, whether they were courses for beginners, advanced or special courses.
Josef Chrastil led dance courses in the Metro on Národní třída, in the Národní dům in Smíchov and in Žofín. In addition to ballroom dancing, he also taught the rules of social behavior and published two publications on the subject. In 1958, a pioneering book for its time, Smím prosit, was published, co-authored by Milena Majorová, a recognized expert and popularizer in the field of etiquette. In 2016, the Small Alphabet of Social Education was printed.

Michal Petrů nevertheless creates works of artThe fame and popularity of the dance master was further multiplied by his work on Czechoslovak television, where he led the first dance courses from the end of the 1950s. Even well-known personalities of the time learned dance steps under his guidance, for example Stela Zázvorková with Vladimír Menšík, Miloš Kopecký and many others. And when the movie Učitel tance was filmed in 1994, from whom else should the actor Martin Dejdar learn his famous paso doble than from Dr. Chrastil?

The well-known and popular dance master did not limit his activities only to conducting dance courses. He became the founder and chairman of the Czechoslovak Dance Teachers organization and the founder of the Jaroslav Ježek Conservatory and Higher Vocational School, where he worked as a teacher and head of the dance department for many years. In 1969, he was elected chairman of the Dance Teachers' Association and remained in this position until 1995, when he was elected chairman of the Prague Dance Teachers' Association.
When enumerating the interests and functions of Dr. Chrastil, whose academic title hides not only the study of law, but also the study of philosophy, we must not forget his passion for horse racing. As a four-year-old boy, his father took him to the racetrack in Chuchle. Since then, Josef Chrastil has been interested in this sport and bets regularly. Due to the current situation, at the moment not directly in Chuchli, but at home at the computer.

In June 2018, after more than half a century, he met his love from his youth, Zdenička, whom he knew from dancing and who lived and worked in Germany for many years. The dancing master now spends the days of his old age by the side of his beloved woman and together they celebrate the master's 95th birthday on June 16.
