Giant Mountains Railway in Martinice - Horydoly.cz - Outdoor Generation

There are some station buildings on the local railway, for example in Hrabacov and Rokytnica nad Jizerou, abandoned and in a desolate state. It leaks into them, they decay.

The railway administration wanted to demolish them. The Mayor of Vrchlab, Jan Sobotka, says: "The negotiations have moved in a positive direction. We have agreed that the demolition of the old railway station buildings is not planned. On the contrary, we have obtained a promise of cooperation in the sense of returning the buildings to their relatively original state. We want to solve the use and reconstruction together."

It will be up to the municipalities themselves, the Krkonoše Association and the Martinice Association, what and how to proceed with the buildings. The processing of a study is assigned, which will indicate what and how it makes economic sense and how to deal with the station buildings. Variants are different, from free transfer to municipalities, to joint property shares with the Railway Administration.

Martinice railway station educational trail

The trail around the area of ​​the Martinice railway station in the Giant Mountains was created thanks to the Railway History Association of Martinice in the Giant Mountains. It has nine stops where you can learn interesting information about individual buildings and technical equipment, their purpose and function.

The trail leads along the road from the station in front of the convenience store, then back under the viaduct past the belfry to the waterworks and on the way above the station to the former guardhouse. The length is 1.3 km from the start to the last ninth stop, and you will walk the same distance on the way back.

The main credit for the construction of the regional railway goes to Count Jan Harrach and the local businessmen of the time. The railway contributed significantly to the economic development of the region, of which it became an integral part.

In order to revive the railway and the valley and strengthen the tourist attractiveness, the Krkonoše destination company - the union of cities and municipalities has prepared an interesting program for this year's summer weekends.
