Get inspired to improve your garden. Like lavender and lilies

It often takes years for a garden to blossom into the beauty of its owners. Among other things, because they changed their original vision several times in the meantime. A couple from Valtice, who started building a house twenty years ago on the very edge of the town with a view of the hill behind which is already Austria, knows a lot about it. And almost immediately he set about making improvements to the land to make the garden the way the owners wanted it to be.

Originally, the garden was supposed to be Japanese, but it was never realized. In the end, more natural treatment prevailed, because other concerns were added. However, since the owner recently decided on early retirement, he will certainly decide to radically transform it in the coming period.

Even though the garden looks neat and many would be extremely satisfied with its appearance, Mr. Stanislav is determined to make a radical change. Last year he was held back from her by building a gallery with a cafe down in the city, but this year he wants to start it. Nevertheless, you can see a lot of inspiring things from the Valtice family garden.

The garden as a space for inspiration

The master of the house has always been close to art, but professionally he became a farmer, specifically a seed grower. However, Kumšt did not completely abandon it, as many artefacts in the garden suggest: ceramics from his artist friends predominate, but you will also find his own author's experiments combining clay and glass.

Division of the garden

You will build a supporting dry wall, which can ideally fulfill the role of a terrain partition, from partially processed stone. But you can also incorporate larger elements into it, which will serve as bases for various art objects; for example, historical building material, or combine stone with wood.

Old bollards, mill wheels and troughs or otherwise worked stones also found a place in the garden. These often became part of handsome dry walls. But you will also come across retired containers of all kinds and grandmother's sewing machines, which fulfill the role of original garden tables.

The unusual paving made of old bricks, each of which is decorated with an original printed brand, is also eye-catching. "Almost all of them come from defunct brickworks in the Břeclav district, some are even Austrian or from Bohemia," reveal the owners. The unique collection, including numerous ceramic works in the entire garden, is even part of their next plans.

But both Stanislav and Regina are already busy: he with the gallery he opened last summer in a nearby town, she with baking gingerbread in a professionally furnished workshop behind the fence. At the same time, they both spend every moment in the garden, he digs into new projects like a true visionary, she takes care of its maintenance. However, she admits that she could not do without the expert guidance of her partner.

You will enjoy the residential garden the most, you can also work on it

From the beginning, they planned the garden as a residential one. To make it truly an integral part of the residence, numerous large windows look out from the house to the three cardinal points.

How to grow lavender

To make the lavender bushes nice and dense, cut them during the flowering period (you can dry them). With sufficient watering, they will bloom again in August. Even after the second flowering, it pays to cut them a little more every few years; thanks to deep rejuvenation, it will retain its compact shape in the next period as well. Otherwise, they begin to loosen: in summer under the weight of inflorescences, in winter under a blanket of snow.

At the same time, the indoor hall connected to the kitchen is connected by a covered outdoor terrace with seating, which also serves as a study. Another workplace, intended for transplanting and working with plants, is in the lower utility part of the garden, which freely connects to the ornamental one.

However, they are separated from each other by a green barrier and a low terrace with a dry wall, part of which is a raised bed overflowing with numerous lavender bushes, which are in full bloom right now. "This summer was particularly successful," they both note. Not only the mentioned lavenders, but also the white lilies were a surprise, although many of them froze in the winter. But they are doing well here, so I would like to pay more attention to lilies in the future," Stanislav explains another of his plans. It's hard to say how many in order, but one thing is certain: they have all worked out for him so far. "I just don't have a garden all the time time, but once it happens, the transformation will be really thorough and radical," he adds.
