Green shirt, tight glasses and gardening tools in hand. For decades, teacher Marcel Škréta came to the cultivation class in this way. He built a small garden center in the large grounds of the Jeremenkova Elementary School in Prague 4. After his retirement, the garden fell into disrepair and overgrown with greenery. Now there is a new park Friendly Garden.

Thousands of pupils went through the lessons of the legendary teacher in the second half of the last century. As part of their teaching, they managed flower beds and greenery on a plot of more than half a hectare. Škréta's garden, equipped with greenhouses and an irrigation system, supplied fruit and vegetables not only to the school canteen.
"We didn't enjoy digging the flowerbeds much, but we were always looking forward to visiting the greenhouses with the flowering plants. We also enjoyed going to the parrot aviary and the beehives. I don't know how he did it, but I don't know anyone who would get stung from his bees. Sometimes we got a honeycomb with a taste, "describes the" growers "Mrs. Petra, who attended school in the 80's.
Škréta's kingdom also included an outdoor swimming pool, which filled with water in the summer days. In the new millennium, however, there have been many years of decay.

Finally, a few years ago, the City Hall of Prague 4 embarked on the renovation of the complex, thanks to which it has now opened the Friendly Garden. The management of the city district introduced it as a teaching and leisure area in the vicinity of the school. Unlike in the past, it is accessible not only to schoolchildren.
"It can be used by the public, mothers with children, seniors and everyone who wants to escape from the noise of the city for a while. The park will also serve the school's pupils, who can organize, for example, theater and music performances in the newly built amphitheater and gazebo, "said Filip Vácha, a councilor for Prague 4 for investment (TOP 09).
